Looking Back on 2023: Reaches of IFIC LatAm during 2023

Thanks to the commitment of each member of IFIC LatAm and participating individuals, IFIC LatAm has demonstrated significant results, as evidenced in the 12 regular sessions held throughout the year. The achievements are presented according to IFIC LatAm’s strategic areas:

  • Consolidation of the IFIC LatAm structure
  • Alliances for integrated health care
  • Research projects and activities
  • Spaces for the production and dissemination of knowledge
  • Training and professional development in integrated health care
  1. Consolidation of IFIC LatAm Structure

The consolidation of IFIC LatAm is a priority as it contributes to the strengthening of Integrated Care in the Americas region. Throughout the year 2023, the IFIC LatAm group has focused on consolidating the organizational structure of IFIC LatAm, establishing work plans based on different strategic objectives, and forming the first integrated care working group within IFIC LatAm.

  1. Alliances for Integrated Health Care

The establishment of alliances is a significant aspect, particularly in the process of consolidating IFIC LatAm, as it contributes to strengthening multisectoral action for Integrated Care in the Americas region. In the year 2023, the IFIC LatAm group has made significant progress in the alliance with IFIC and has advanced in the partnership with the Health Systems and Services (HSS) team of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

  1. Research Projects and Activities

Throughout the year 2023, the IFIC LatAm group made significant progress in generating a Latin American chapter for the Handbook of Integrated Care and in formulating and preparing the project “Analysis of health system conditions for scaling integrated care from local contexts in 7 countries in the Americas: An analysis using the Scaling Integrated Care in Context (SCIROCCO) tool.”

  1. Spaces for Knowledge Production and Dissemination

In 2023, the IFIC LatAm group achieved participation in the International Conference on Integrated Care (ICIC23) and the Meeting for Equity: Local Knowledge in Health for Global Transformation. Additionally, the group successfully organized the I Workshop on Integrated Care and End of Life: Deconstructing knowledge around integrated care and end of life in Latin America. Currently, the organization of the Latin American session for the International Conference on Integrated Care (ICIC24) is underway, along with the promotion of the call for submissions for the Archives of Medical Research journal.

  1. Training and Professional Development in Integrated Health Care

During 2023, the IFIC LatAm group included and promoted training and professional development in integrated care as a focal point within the established alliances. Significant progress was also made in the specific project of the Latin American chapter for the Handbook of Integrated Care, which will soon be published, serving as a valuable resource for institutions and professionals interested in the field.

It is noteworthy that IFIC LatAm had representation in the People-Centered Medicine and Health Course in Latin America organized by the Andean Health Organization-Hipólito Unanue Agreement and the International College, Latin American Network, and Peruvian Association of People-Centered Medicine.

The year 2023 marked significant growth for the IFIC LatAm group, made possible by the unwavering support and collaboration of IFIC, invaluable dialogues, analyses, contributions, and continuous follow-up from the members of the IFIC LatAm group. Additionally, the participation of all alliances has provided opportunities to continue dreaming, growing, and building towards the design of health systems that prioritize individuals, families, and the communities they inhabit.

The outlook for 2024 is one of great possibilities and a horizon that foresees substantial growth and development of initiatives, allowing the group to continue advancing and nurturing the shared goal of positioning integrated and person-centered care in the forefront for individuals, families, and communities in the Latin American region.
