Vilans Reflects on Key Themes from ICIC25 Lisbon

A team of researchers and professionals from Vilans, the Dutch centre of expertise for long-term care, attended the 25th International Conference on Integrated Care (ICIC25) in Lisbon, held from 22–24 April 2025. In a recent article, they share their reflections on the experience, offering thoughtful insights into the discussions that shaped this year’s event.

ICIC25 brought together over 1,200 participants from across the world to explore how integrated care can be advanced in practice.

In their article, the Vilans team highlights the importance of building trust, working across disciplines, and co-creating solutions with people receiving care. They reflect on a range of themes, including:

  • Supporting workforce resilience and wellbeing

  • Driving digital innovation while maintaining human connection

  • Promoting community-led care initiatives

  • Learning from both successes and challenges in integrated care implementation

“You don’t just learn from each other’s successes, but also from what didn’t work out,” the article notes—underscoring the conference's honest and collaborative spirit.

We’re pleased to see the continued exchange of knowledge and experience that ICIC25 fosters, and we thank the Vilans team for contributing their perspective to the ongoing global conversation on integrated care.
