Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS)
Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport is the main international gateway to Portugal, located just 7 kilometers (about 15 minutes) from the city center. It serves numerous airlines offering direct flights from cities worldwide. Upon arrival, you can easily access the city via taxis, ride-hailing services, or public transportation like the Aerobus and metro, with direct routes to central Lisbon.
Lisbon is well connected to other Portuguese cities and neighboring countries by train. The main station, Gare do Oriente, offers both domestic and international services. You can catch high-speed trains from Porto, Faro, or Spain (Madrid) to Lisbon. The station is also conveniently located near the airport and well linked to public transport, making onward travel easy.
Several long-distance bus companies, such as Rede Expressos and FlixBus, operate regular services to Lisbon from other cities in Portugal and across Europe. Buses typically arrive at the Sete Rios or Oriente bus terminals, both well-connected to the metro and other transport options for a smooth journey into the city.
If you're driving, Lisbon is accessible via major highways such as the A1, which connects the city to northern Portugal, and the A2, linking it to southern regions like the Algarve. The A6 highway also provides a direct route from Spain. Please note that while driving in Lisbon is an option, the city’s narrow streets and limited parking in the historic center can be challenging. Consider parking outside the city center and using public transport.
