Jane Miller
Academy Programme Manager at the ALLIANCE.
The Academy seeks to drive transformational change by working with people who use health and social care services. Jane manages a portfolio of work which covers: human rights, climate change and maternal health inequalities. Jane is passionate about human rights, participation, equalities, and inclusion. She is a strong advocate for involving the voice of lived experience in policy, practice, and service design. She was recently on secondment with Together (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights) to lead a pilot project looking at supporting children and young people’s meaningful and inclusive participation to support the work of the UNCRC Strategic Implementation Board and to inform the UNCRC implementation programme.

Mariem Omari
Artistic Director and Co-founder Bijili Productions
Having grown up in Australia, Mariem moved to her father’s homeland in the Middle East where she worked with refugees and survivors of violence. This inspired her ongoing commitment to promoting stories that strengthen the voice for equality. Her next move was to her mother’s homeland – Scotland – where she has been working closely with ethnically diverse communities to explore issues often considered taboo. This has led to the creation of her socially engaged theatre and projects including If I Had A Girl…, One Mississippi, and A Knot A Day, that explore issues such as migration and displacement, honour violence, and mental health. Her writing also spans essays and creative non-fiction, and she continues to work internationally training Women Human Rights Defenders in the Middle East and North Africa. Her latest play, Revolution Days, is about her experiences as an Aid Worker and was showcased in 2021; and her audio piece, The Jinn in Me, about Jinn beliefs and their impact on mental health was broadcast on BBC platforms in 2021.

Sheila Ogden
Senior Community Inclusion Co-ordinator, North East Sensory Services (NESS)
Sheila is responsible for delivery of NESS’s Connect Inform Support (CIS) – a dedicated service for people aged 65 and over in Aberdeen and Moray who are living with a sensory loss and who are socially isolated.
Alan Connor
International Engagement Manager– INTERREG VA, Technology Enabled Care and Digital Healthcare Innovation
After two decades in the private sector, Alan joined NHS Scotland and has held Project / Programme Manager posts with NHS 24, SCTT and NHS National Services Scotland. He provides leadership and co-ordination of projects whilst maximising opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange to promote Scotland’s reputation in digital health and care.
Mayca Marín
National / European Project Coordinator,
Parkinson Madrid Association, Spain
Mayca is a General Health Psychologist and Social Worker specialising in Gerontology and Digital Health care. She has more than 20 years of experience in the design and implementation of social and health care projects for different public and private entities, including patient organisations. Previous roles have included training of people who use services and professionals, and awareness raising and defence of the rights of different groups (e.g. immigrants, victims of gender violence). She has extensive experience working with older people, carrying out interventions aimed at maintaining and increasing their wellbeing and quality of life, as well as that of their families and/or carers. She has also worked in several programmes of the Spanish Public Employment System in the Community of Madrid, defining selection and recruitment processes for different purposes.
Pilar Gangas Peiró
International Foundation for Integrated Care
Pilar has a PhD in Political Sciences and Masters in Social Sciences and for over 20 years has worked on more than 60 qualitative and qualitative research and/or project management projects. Her focus has included quality, risks and costs management, compliance with guidelines, coordination for eHealth tools development and also cross-cutting issues such as social research and gender. She has participated in several large scale evaluation programmes for public organisations.

Nessa Barry

Previously, she worked at NHS 24 at the Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare (SCTT). Janne has worked as an OT since 2000, within both hospital and community settings. As head of the ATEC24 Assistive Living Team she links assessment and reviews around preventative and early intervention and is leading a test of proactive outbound calling for Telecare customers. She is also a Practice Lead, facilitating implementation of the 3 conversations approach within EHSCP.

Raima Lohani

Lead of Knowledge Mobilization at the Centre for Digital Therapeutics

Raima engages across several portfolios with a focus on advancing and translating knowledge into practice throughout the continuum of innovation and implementation. She leads portfolios that seek to address gaps in cancer survivorship, diabetes, heart failure, and multiple chronic disease management.

Noor El-Dassouki

Research Associate at the Centre for Digital Therapeutics

Noor is committed to working towards a world that provides good health and wellbeing to all its inhabitants. She was born, raised, and now lives in Toronto, Canada. In her Research Associate role, she aims to improve equitable access to digital health care for communities who are often excluded from its use.

Presenters

Chris is a system designer, technologist and expert in digital implementation in mental health. In a career spanning over 20 years he has lead ground-breaking, award winning transformation programmes that have fundamentally changed how mental health treatments and support are delivered across Scotland.
For the past 8 years Chris has held national roles within both the NHS and Scottish Government and is currently working in Scottish Government as the National Advisor for Digital Mental Health and as the Head of the Digital Mental Health Programme which he established in 2020. Chris is passionate about delivering innovative, high quality, sustainable digital services at large scale within mental health, speaking regularly at public forums about his experiences and approaches. His current focus is development of strategy, policy, service and innovative technologies and he is working to change the culture across Health and Care services to maximise the adoption and impact of digital in mental health.
Cara is the Chief Executive Officer of CGI and Founder of Terra’s Tribe, a maternal mental health advocacy organization in Phoenix, Arizona. Cara provided integrated behavioural health services to new mothers at Arizona Breastfeeding Center from 2015-2017, and at Willow Birth Center from 2017-2020. The Willow behavioural health integration project received international acclaim through publication of outcomes in the International Journal of Integrated Care (IJIC) and through presentations at IFIC Conferences in 2018 and 2020. Cara has extensive experience working with women and families with mental health challenges in both acute and community settings. She served as Vice-President of the Postpartum Support International – Arizona Chapter Founding Board of Directors, and co-chaired the Education and Legislative Advocacy Committees. Serving on the Maternal Mortality Review Program and the Maternal Health Taskforce for the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Women’s and Children’s Health, she is an avid advocate for integrated care. She served as one of three Arizonan 2020 Mom Nonprofit Policy Fellows in 2021. For her work to establish Cummings Graduate Institute, Cara was awarded the Psyche Award from the Nicholas & Dorothy Cummings Foundation in 2018, and is more recently the recipient of the 2022 Sierra Tucson Compassion Recognition for her work to improve perinatal mental health integration in Arizona.

Dr. Joan Vegué Grilló

Director, Mental Health and Addictions, Health Department, Catalan Government

Dr. Joan Vegué Grilló is Director of the Regional Plan for Mental Health and Addictions in the Health Department of the Catalan Government. A medical graduate from the University of Barcelona, he gained his specialist accreditation in Psychiatry from the Pierre et Marie Curie University (Paris VI) and is a certified Psychotherapist for the International Society of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (ISTFP)

Anders was involved in the founding of the Agrenska Centre in 1989. He served as director until 2004 and since then has been Chairman. He is responsible for establishing The Agrenska Virtual International Academy, a research centre for rare disorders, and has served as chairman of the Council of the Eesti Agrenska Foundation since it was established in 2003.  A member of the EURORDIS board, he was president from 1999 to 2001. During this period EURORDIS was instrumental in establishing COMP (The Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products) at the European Medicine Agency. He represented EURORDIS as a member of the board of the European Patients’ Forum (EPF) until 2016, was president from 2005 to 2016 and was then appointed Honorary President.

Dorica Dan

Romania

 

Dorica is founding member and president of the Romanian Prader Willi Association, of the Romanian National Alliance for Rare Diseases and of the Romanian Association for Rare Cancers. She has been a member of EURORDIS board since 2007, and is a member of both the National Council for Rare Diseases and the Economic and Social Council and has been an Ashoka Fellow since 2018. Doris coordinates the strategic activities of the NoRo Center and the efforts of the employees and volunteers to achieve their objectives. She also facilitates finding of the necessary resources for all these to happen. She has a degree in psychology, with over 15 years of experience in lobbying and advocacy in the field of rare diseases.

Karsten R. Barton
Physiotherapist
Frambu Resource Centre for Rare Disorders,
Norway

Karsten first entered the field of Rare Disorders as a student working at Frambu’s summer camps for children and youths with rare disorders. This was back in 1997 and led to nine very meaningful and inspiring summer holidays working at camp. In 2007 Karsten started full-time at Frambu as a Physiotherapist, but soon moved on to a leadership position running the centre’s summer camps and adapted activities, school and day-care services. Due to a car accident, he left this position in 2021 to work as a Senior Adviser at the centre focussing on international collaboration, fundraising activities and acting as a resource in work with physiotherapy and adapted physical activities. Karsten is still responsible for running the summer camps, where they employ and train a large number of students to run the camps. This is one of the activities at the centre which he personally finds most meaningful.

Lisen Julie Mohr

Frambu Resource Centre for Rare Disorders

 

Lisen has a university degree in medical librarianship and in languages and previously worked at Oslo University. Since 2009, Lisen has coordinated projects with European countries financed by EEA and Norway Grants. All projects are aimed at rare diseases and Frambu is a partner representing the donor country. Lisen also has experience of being the mother of a young man, now 40 years old, who has an intellectual disability, probably caused by a rare chromosomal disorder of unknown origin. Lisen established and ran the Norwegian organization for Williams syndrome for more than 10 years. During these years she also helped start up the Federation of European Williams Syndrome Associations.

Marianne leads a programme that aims to support the outcomes of Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) and a range of other children’s policy and practice. She is passionate about empowering disabled children and children living with long term conditions and their families to make Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) work for them. She is a strong advocate for increasing the voice of people with lived experience and the capacity of the third sector to engage with and contribute to the GIRFEC approach.
