Community as the Catalyst: Advancing Integrated Primary Healthcare for Health and Wellbeing

The North America Conference on Integrated Care (NACIC27) in partnership with IFIC Canada, the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC), International Journal for Integrated Care (IJIC), the North America Centre for Integrated Care (NACIC) and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at University of Toronto, takes place from 13 - 15 October 2027.

NACIC27 will explore how communities can shape and strengthen health and wellbeing. It will consider the importance of relationships and neighbourhoods, the role of comprehensive, team-based primary health care, and the connections needed across health, social care and community systems. In keeping with IFIC’s commitment to meaningful participation, the conference will be co-designed with people with lived experience, patients and caregivers.

The conference will bring together leaders, researchers, clinicians, managers, community representatives, patients and caregivers from across Canada and around the world. It will provide a valuable opportunity to exchange practical learning, develop new relationships, share evidence and experience, and contribute to the future of integrated care in North America and internationally.

Scientific Committee

The International Scientific Committee (ISC) brings together researchers, practitioners, clinicians, policymakers, community representatives and people with lived experience, including patients and caregivers, from across North America and the wider international integrated care community.

Reflecting our democratic approach to knowledge, the Committee values expertise from research, professional practice, communities and people’s direct experiences of care. This breadth helps ensure the programme is relevant, inclusive and scientifically robust.

The ISC leads the scientific process, peer reviews abstracts, advises on emerging priorities and gaps, and encourages contributions from across research, policy, practice and education, helping to create a diverse programme that advances integrated, people-centred care.

Organising Committee

The Organising Committee brings together IFIC, IFIC Canada, patient and caregiver representatives, and conference partners to shape and deliver NACIC27.

Combining international conference experience with extensive knowledge of integrated care across Canada and North America, members help ensure the conference is relevant to the region’s health and care priorities while connected to international learning.

The Committee leads the planning, organisation, delivery and review of the conference and supports the work of the International Scientific Committee. Patient and caregiver representation in the Lived and Living Experience Advisory Group helps maintain a strong patient, caregiver and family-centred focus throughout the design and delivery of the conference programme.

Patients Included

NACIC27 is co-designed with patients and caregivers and achieves Patients Included designation. Special consideration is given to papers that demonstrate active people involvement and engagement in either or all of design, implementation and evaluation. Patient and Caregivers attend the conference for free, but we cannot cover accommodation and travel costs. We encourage papers from patient and caregivers, but also suggest that health and care researchers and practitioners should encourage patient and caregiver partners to co-present where appropriate and fund travel and accommodation costs if possible.
