Evaluating integrated care is one of the most debated and contested areas in both research and real-world implementation. While evaluation is widely recognised as essential, there is far less agreement on how it should be designed, what it should prioritise, and who it should ultimately serve. For those working to implement and scale integrated care on the ground, these debates can often feel abstract, technical, and disconnected from practice.
In this series, IFIC Chief Executive Dr Niamh Lennox-Chhugani sits down with researchers and practitioners from across the world for informal, one-to-one conversations exploring how evaluation can better support learning, improvement, and impact in integrated care. Together, they unpack complex and sometimes contentious questions around evaluation — from why it matters, to how it can be embedded from the outset of implementation, to what it should tell us when models of care are adapted or replicated.

Demystifying Health Financing for Integrated Care

The International Foundation for Integrated Care has defined nine pillars of integrated care based on the evidence accumulated over the last 2 decades. One of those pillars is Aligned Payments that Promote Integration. This is a difficult subject to understand particularly for policymakers, service managers and health and care professionals working in systems trying to implement integrated care who are not financing and payment experts. This short podcast series features our Chief Executive Dr Niamh Lennox-Chhugani in conversation with four leading practitioners who have been researching and designing new payment models around the world. They demystify the language of payment models and the different models we see emerging in different countries.
