IFIC Scotland partners at the University of the West of Scotland are pleased to announce a fully-funded Ph.D. scholarship opportunity. The successful candidate for the Wendy Baxter Scholarship will be supervised by leading dementia care experts from the Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice. As dementia advances, it is not unusual for family carers to experience significant psychological impacts. Admission of a close relative with dementia to a care home is a time of emotional turbulence and adjustment. Changes in the caring dynamic and the realities of witnessing progression of a terminal condition are compounded by the complexities of advanced dementia and dementia-specific palliation. This scholarship will support work to optimise family experiences of visiting in care homes and will study opportunities for their involvement in individualised dementia care and creative activities.
How to apply?
The online application process will require you to prepare an outline proposal responding to the focus of the research as described above. Through your outline proposal you will demonstrate your readiness to undertake doctoral level studies, your familiarity with research methods and ability to plan a relevant applied study. Importantly you should convey understanding that this scholarship is designed to advance approaches to support family members of relatives with dementia throughout their care home experience.
The closing date for applications is Friday 28th May 2021.
