Over the years, the Integrated Care Academy as part of the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC), has developed several continuing professional development (CPD) and other education and training programmes. It has delivered these as stand-alone and in collaboration with partners. It has also promoted the work of partnering higher education institutions that provide post-graduate education and training.
The scaling up of integrated care models internationally and the recognition of the crisis in health and care workforce capacity and capability has surfaced a gap in our understanding of how we are addressing the needs of the workforce, including informal carers, for education and training in the fundamentals of integrated care.
The limited research and knowledge generation in this area to date has focused on the specific skills, knowledge and competency requirements for working in the context of care integration. We do not know the extent to which this is being incorporated into the design and provision of education and training within our vocationally trained workforce for health and care practitioners (HCPs) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels or as part of CPD. What little research there is in this area has largely been conducted in high income and anglophone countries.
IFIC’s Academy team wanted to understand the current state of integrated care education and training in a range of countries across the world where we have strong networks.
