Children, Young People and Families SIG

SIG Children Young People and Families

Aims

The primary focus of the SIG will be on integrated mental health and social care for children, young people and families. Despite its crucial importance, this is an underrepresented area in international integrated care research and practice. Building on the Dutch Network on Integrated Care for Children and Families and the earlier Children, Young People and Families Special Interest Group (CYF SIG, 1, 2), we aim to revitalise the SIG as an international platform. The renewed SIG will connect professionals, researchers, policymakers, and lived-experience experts (consumers) across mental health, education, and social care.

Objectives

To create a forum for like-minded professionals from across organisational, sectorial and geographical boundaries to come together to promote the agenda for integrated mental and social care for children, young people and families. Members would work towards collaborative research and joint publications, support a shared platform of lessons learnt and successful case studies, projects, programs of work, models of care, frameworks, tools and resources and pooled data and resources to facilitate comparative work.

The SIG will (earlier SIG goals are slightly adapted):

  • advocate for an integrated approach to mental health and social care as it applies to children, young people and their families
  • provide collegial leadership in this area locally, nationally and globally
  • create enabling environments to deliver integrated care by aligning policy, information and services
  • strengthen evidence that integrated mental health and social care for children, young people and their families improves outcomes
  • build capacity to translate such evidence into practice

Activities

  • Establish a global network of interested parties
  • Find global funding to coordinate the network
  • Define integrated mental health and social care as it applies to children, young people and their families
  • Develop a renewed position paper
  • Collaborate on research and grant proposals
  • Develop and promote appropriate outcome and evaluation measures, building an evaluation framework
  • Share knowledge, successes, lessons-learnt, and current models of care

Audience

Participants engaged in child, young people and family mental health and social care. These include professionals from health, social care, and education; policymakers; researchers; and representatives of families and young people.
